Can I use portable Generator on my Cabin Cruiser

Your Cabin Cruiser doesn’t have a generator and you want to use the A/C while on the lake.  There are some options to get you what you want.  As you might know not all the Cabin Cruisers out there come with a built in generator.  So what can we use while we are out on the water and you want to use the A/C to cool things down or would like to sleep on the boat out on the lake and want to use the A/C to sleep more comfortably.

The only way is to use a portable generator.  There are generates small enough to carry around these days and produce enough power to run your A/C.  You will need to determine the power consumption of you A/C to determine what watt capacity you need from a generator.  Remember there is more than the A/C that will need power and that the A/C can take up to 10x its operating watts for start up.

There are many types of generators out there so look around and research which is best for you.  You will see inverters and generators separate and together.  You need at least a generator and if you would like you can get an inverter/generator as one.  In the end the inverter will not be enough to run your air conditioning.

Where do I put the generator while it is running?

The best place will be at the back of the boat on the swim deck.  Then take your 30 amp cord and run to where you boat connections are.  If you have 2 electrical boat connections you will need a splitter cable to go from 30 amp cord to the 2 electrical boat connections. Turn the generator on and then turn on your A/C.

Should I use a CO detector?

The answer is yes most definitely.  Most use 2 and sometimes 3, probably depending on size of boat,  just in case.  Always better to be safe than sorry.

Now go enjoy your boat even more than you used to.

Great places to Kayak as a beginner

Many of us have thought about buying a kayak and getting out on the water. Being on the water sounds great but where do I start. Where should I go.  Kayaking although fun can be a little tricky and dangerous if you take your first trip down a fast river or a busy lake. A kayak is not an easy purchase since there are so many types of them out there.  The first thing you need to decide is if you want to just cruise around and get a little exercise or go out and do some fishing.  There are plenty of kayaks out there that are rigged with extra options that a lot of people use for going out and doing some fishing. After deciding what kind of kayaking you want to do now it is time to decide where to go for the first few times to get used to using your new kayak.

There are some smaller lakes that are restricted to non motorized boats and are a great place to get out to and learn how to kayak and also if you decided to fish it is great learning how to balance while catching a fish.  There are also small lakes around most areas that allow motorized boats that is not a bad place to learn but those motorized boats put out some waves that can be a little tricky to maneuver depending on their size.  If you have decided or your only option is to go down a river then a little more work is going to be needed and if you can try to pick a river that is slow moving so that you get a chance to learn how to kayak and use your paddles.  You will also need to figure out where to put in your kayak to the river and where to get out and making sure you have an extra vehicle to either drop you off or pic you up at the end of your ride.

Well I hope this gives a couple of ideas of where to start kayaking , I will talk more about types of kayaks in a later blog to help give ideas on which one is a good size for the money.  Happy kayaking.

Should I buy a Cabin Cruiser or not

Cabin cruisers can be a lot of fun for just a day on the water or the whole weekend. Typically any of the 25 – 45’ cruisers offer all the essentials of home, including a galley (kitchen), head (toilet), and multiple berths (sleeping accommodations) to accommodate a family or friends. Almost all of them have air conditioning and/or heating, fresh water tank, hot water to shower or do the dishes. Electrical power is provided by shore power or by generator. Some generators come with the boat but if one doesn’t there are plenty of generators that you can use to provide the power you need. One nice thing about a cruiser is its size and deep V bottom that gives a comfortable ride in a variety of conditions.
Cabin cruisers can offer many different types outdoor fun. You don’t have to just enjoy your favorite lake you can also weekend getaways to different locations by traveling up and sown the coast or a river tour to see different areas. When you do this the boat offers all the amenities of home and you don’t need to stay at a hotel just stay on your boat. The boat is large enough to bring family or some friends to enjoy being on the water.

Cruisers use Sterndrivepower and is the most common for a cabin cruiser and depending on the boat’s size there is a good chance you will have 2 but there are a lot out there with only 1. Sterndrives combine propeller and rudder in one unit to provide easily controlled, directional thrust.

So the question still is do I buy a cruiser or a different type of boat. A cabin cruiser can pull a tube but will use some fuel when it does. But if you your looking for a boat to be able to spend the whole weekend on and bring some friends along as well then a cruiser is a good choice for you.

Tips and Ideas when buying Large Camping Tents

20 Person tent

Tents come in all shapes and sizes. Depending on the use to which the tent will be put, tents large enough for multiple campers may be purchased and used. Using tents large enough for more than one person can be a daunting task, however. Some camping tents large enough to hold 3 or 4 people are available in many different trim levels. The amenities offered by most camping tents are widespread. With camping tents, large portions of the population are never quite sure what to purchase, so there are a few things to always keep in mind when purchasing a tent for personal use, whether it’s occasional camping or frequent outdoor activity.

Tents are available in different sizes, shapes, and room numbers. There are 8 to 10 person tents on the market that have as many as 4 rooms. Typically, these tents will have a sitting room, a sleeping area, and one or two screened-in porch areas. The porch areas are handy for stowing gear, or to use as overflow sleeping quarters, or as an indoor eating area that is safe from the ravages of mosquitoes and other pests. While tents are certainly not as luxurious as a dedicated hotel room, the simple fact is that they are mobile and relatively inexpensive. Tents large enough to hold multiple people are very easily moved from place to place, and the fees for putting up a tent in most locations is minimal. Because tents are so versatile, it’s easy to see why they’re so highly regarded by much of the camping world. Of course, there are a few amenities that buyers should always try to find.

Customers should always look for a tent that uses aluminum poles. Fiberglass poles are common, but are prone to breakage. Aluminum poles are the most durable option, and don’t sacrifice portability for durability. Customers should also seek out a tent that is double stitched. Double stitched seams and folded seams are two ways to ensure that water stays outside where it belongs. Most tents are water resistant by nature, but if the seams aren’t double stitched, water will still be able to seep in through them during stubborn rainstorms.

Search for tents that feature a one-piece floor, as well. Many tent floors are made from pieced-together panels, and are generally of lesser quality. By using a one-piece floor, buyers can further ensure their separation from the elements. Make sure that the floor panels come at least 3 or 4 inches up the sides of the tent, and are double stitched. Ensuring that there is adequate protection from groundwater is vitally important, as it is difficult to sleep comfortably if the occupants are soaking wet. Regardless of the type and size of the tents chosen, it’s important to buy the best possible tent that you can afford. When purchasing a tent for regular usageArticle Submission, it’s truly a good idea to spend the extra money to buy a high quality tent that will withstand the elements and prolonged usage.

Ideas on How to get Kayaks to the water

If kayaking is your passion you probably know that it is not always easy to get your kayak to the water. Great places to Kayak are all over the country.  Lakes, rivers, ocean, and even  some ponds.  Most of us probably can’t take a kayak and flip over our head and carry to the water.  It is going to depend on the size of the kayak and the person.  If you are kayaking with 2 or more people then grabbing each end and carrying the kayak down to the water is much easier but then your making multiple trips.  Now you are tired before you even start kayaking.  There are a lot of places where you can back right down to the area to put in the kayak which makes it really nice and easy and convenient.  You can also just rent a kayak at a local marina or river area and not even worry about owning your own, but if you like kayaking you will want to own a kayak to be able to go where you want and when you want.

There is another way to get your kayak down to the water by yourself without having to carry it or drag it, and that is to use a kayak dolly.  It will connect to one end of your kayak and you will lift the other end and pull the kayak to the water.  There are different types of dolly’s out there so make sure you pick the one that will fit your kayak.  Most of all have fun.

Do It Yourself Wooden Boat Building: Some Tips And Facts

Wood boats for sale will surely hurt your budget. If you are on a tight budget and you want to own a boat made of wood, better engage in do it yourself boat construction. Wooden boat building might not be easy to do, but it is definitely not impossible. Here are some information and some tips on how to build boats, specifically ones made from wood:

Dories, canoes, etc, are examples of popular boats that are usually built by hobbyists and people who love boats. These types usually fall under the category of wood boats. There are various methods of making them such as the stitch and glue method, the more complicated lapstrake technique, and so on. Before you start your building project, of course, you have to consider the answers to these questions first:

1. What will you use your do it yourself vessel for?

2. Will you be making a small ride or a big ride?

3. Are you a newbie in wooden boat building or someone who has had previous experience?

4. How much budget do you have?

5. How much time do you have for construction?

After you have answered the questions mentioned above, the next step on how to build boats is to search for plans or guides that focus on wood boats. You can find them in bookstores, but more of these plans can be found on the World Wide Web. You just have to use Google or any search engine, and then type keywords such as do it yourself boats, plans for wooden boats, and the like. If this will be your first time doing wooden boat building, it is highly recommended that you stick to simple and easy to follow guides or plans instead of going for complicated boat construction manuals.

The next thing you’ll have to do is to gather and prepare the materials. If you’re goal is to learn how to build boats, to be specific the wooden type, you should become aware that plywood is the most affordable kind, and though it looks ‘cheap’ compared to other types of wood, it has grades and classifications that are durable even when exposed to the heat and pressure. If you want the finished products to be practical and affordable wood boats, go for plywood as the main material. Once you’ve gained experience on construction, you can opt for better quality material such as the Marine plywood. Another material that is important in do it yourself wooden vessel creation is epoxy. It does not only glue the materials together – it also makes your boat protected from the water e.g. it won’t absorb water, making it safer for you to ride on it.

Whether you’re into wooden boat building, constructing steel boats, etc, always remember that part of the pointers on how to build boats is to always put on protective gear whenever you’re working on the boat. Wear goggles, protective gloves, surgical mask, etc, so you won’t breathe in the hazardous fumes from the solventScience Articles, and so you’ll have smaller chances of hurting yourself or having accidents during the construction process.

Ideas on how to keep the fish from hitting the bottom of your boat at night.

Boating 1995 Rinker

I am not new to boating but I am new to sleeping on my boat at the slip we have rented.  The other night my wife and I decided to sleep on our boat for her first time and only the second time for me.  Something that we did not know was all the knocking that goes on during the night.  Wow that was crazy.  The first time I slept on the boat I did not notice it but I had recently put the boat into the water so there was no algae growing on the bottom yet.  I of course thought this is great I can’t wait to have my wife join me, she will love it. That was not quiet the words she used.

It started happening about 3 am.  One knock after another and another and another.  My wife was getting out of bed to go tear someone a new one.   thinking a neighbor was playing a prank on us. I stopped her and told her that another slip owner had mentioned that the fish would hit  the bottom of the boat at times but I had no idea what he really meant till now.  Of course I decided to do a little research and see what we could do to keep that from happening again.

From what I have read it is a good idea to pull the boat every so often and power wash the algae off.  Another way is to paint the bottom of the boat with an anti fouling paint.  From what I have read it does not completely stop the algae from attaching to the bottom of your boat but does slow it down drastically.  These 2 ways are definitely something to look at but will cost time and money. There is another way that seems like a pretty good idea that I saw a person post and that he is using the aerators he used during the winter to keep the water from freezing around his boat.  During the summer is  turns them on at night and the banging on the bottom of his boat stopped.  The fish did not like to work against the current to eat so they went somewhere else.  Not a bad idea if you already have them there for the winter use.  One last thing I thought was interesting is that someone said they used a salt block (yes the ones for the animals to eat) and that worked pretty good.  I might have to try the salt block first to to see if it does.  If anyone has any other great ideas I would love to hear from you.  Thanks

Fishing Trip Tips

Fishing can be a relaxing way to spend your weekends. It has been proven that fishing is one of the all-time treasured experiences of thousands of American families. However, any sport has its dangerous side and fishing is no exemption. Majority of fishing equipment have sharp tools such as metal hooks which may lead to accidents when the fishing environment unexpectedly changes for the worse. Storms, hurricanes, wild currents, and other mishaps, could spoil your fishing trip. If you are planning to go on a fishing expedition with family or friends, here is a list of urgent situations and what preparations you need to face each scenario.

1) Weather – Before packing up your bags and traveling to your fishing spot, consult or be aware of the weather conditions for the day and the following days. Whether you are fishing on shores or in a boat, you should be cautious of the conditions such as flash floods, storm movements and darkening of the skies. When signals such as extreme lightning strikes, you should head to dry land immediately. Having a sun-drenched day is not really an “appropriate fishing day.” You should be aware that spending many hours with exposure to the sun could damage your skin. Be prepared by bringing sun block to avoid sunburns. You should be aware of heat sickness symptoms such as nausea, breathing difficulty, lightheadedness, and unable to concentrate on tasks. Prepare a supply of water or liquid beverages to keep hydrated.

2) Sharp fishing equipments – Since fishing includes many sharp tools, you should always be prepared to treat injuries by packing disinfectants such as medicated lotion or spray and hydrogen peroxide. If an incident leads the skin to bleed, you would need bandages, cotton or paper towel. Bring your own first aid kit.

3) Tangles – One of the most common fishing hindrances is wherein your line is caught in anything surrounding your fishing spot such as trees, logs, etc. Try to get your line or fishing rod out of the tangle immediately to avoid the problem that could lead into a major accident. You could either snap off the branches of the tree or carefully and slowly remove your line away from where it is tangled.

4) Bait – When you run out of bait, it could spoil your while fishing trip. Avoid this by splitting up the rest of the bait into halves, quarters or thirds. The worm, even if divided, could still move, so the divided worms could still lure your target fish.Be prepared to face any scenario to keep your fishing adventure as relaxed as possible. With all these in mind, you could enjoy your fishing trip safely and successfully.

Fishing: Trout Fishing With The Best Fishing Lures

Fishing for trout? Having some difficulties with your fishing game? If so, chances are very high that you’re not using the right fishing lure or bait. Now how can I be so sure?

Trout are quite voracious. They are insatiable eaters. If you present the proper lure, they’ll gobble it up most efficiently and with impressive speed. The first thing then is being able to make that fish bite the hook. And if you’re armed with the right powered fishing rod and a fishing line with the correct flexibility and strength, catching trout will be a simple pleasure.

We know that trout are ravenous eaters. To be precise, they are carnivores who have a fondness for live small creatures that are willing to put up a good fight. No creature, aquatic or terrestrial, is ever safe with this fish. A trout would even feed on smaller fishes, providing that they could fit into its comparatively large mouth.

Based on these facts, the following are considered to be the most excellent baits for trout:

ª Dry flies. These artificial flies are crafted to look like real flies. When tugged upon, they can even imitate the movement of their living counterparts. Considering a trout’s voracious appetite, dry flies are perfect baits for its perpetually hungry mouth.

ª Sinkers. These are nymphs and wet flies that have been prepared to sink to the bottom of the water. Because trout feeds beneath the surface of the water most of the time, sinkers have improved odds of capturing the target’s attention.

ª Emergers. Trout are predators. They know when their preys are most vulnerable. Can there be any more fragile condition than that of an invertebrate which has just emerged from its nymph stage into young adulthood? (Lo, the circle of life.) By replicating these “emergers,” lure-crafters manage to garner the attention of trout greedy for a satisfying meal.

Reverse Paddling

Reverse paddling is an important kayaking technique.

While forward paddling is probably one of the most commonly used paddling strokes, reverse paddling is just as important. In fact, before you go kayaking, you should definitely practice both forward and reverse paddling to make sure that you have the necessary skills so that you do not end up in trouble while you are out at sea.

First, when you are reverse paddling, you should make sure that you are holding the paddle lightly, just like you would if you were paddling forward. This will help you have more control over the paddle, and it will also keep you from getting injured while you are paddling.

Next, you should make sure that you are using the back of the paddle blade when you are kayaking. While you should put the blade into the water near your feet in order to paddle forward, reverse paddling requires you to put the blade into the water near your hips instead. Then, you should push the paddle toward the bow of your kayak while turning the trunk of your body.

You should make sure that you always keep your elbows bent while you are reverse paddling, that way you will not hurt yourself. You should pull your paddle blade out of the water about when you are even with your knees in the kayak.
